Luxury Drinks Advent Calendar Concepts | Seasonal Packaging Case Study

Magellan produced two festive packaging concepts to demonstrate how luxury advent calendars can be adapted for drinks brands seeking a refined and memorable way to present their products. Created as design samples rather than finished branded units, these calendars explore how structure, artwork and format can work together to create engaging seasonal packaging for retail, gifting and promotional campaigns.

The two concepts are based around different product sizes and uses — one designed for full-sized wine bottles and one for miniature spirits — highlighting how advent calendar formats can be engineered to suit a wide range of requirements. Both concepts use E-fluted board with perforated doors, offering a visually premium result without the cost or weight of rigid board construction.

BRANDED DRINKS FLUTED CALENDARS

Reindeer Concept – Wine Advent Calendar Format

The Reindeer concept was developed with larger bottles in mind, offering a bold structural solution for drinks brands looking to include wine or statement bottles within an advent calendar format. The internal layout allows for a featured bottle to take centre stage alongside smaller daily compartments, creating an enhanced unboxing experience with a defined highlight moment.

Measuring 43cm in length, 20cm in width and 45cm in height, the format demonstrates how E-fluted construction can still deliver strength and presence even when holding heavier products. The geometric illustration style and vibrant colour palette show how contemporary artwork can transform functional packaging into something eye-catching and gift-worthy. The central composition of the design also indicates where a brand mark, campaign message or bespoke detail could be introduced when tailoring the calendar for a specific client.

Wreath Concept – Miniature Spirits Advent Calendar Format

The Wreath concept presents a more compact approach, designed for miniature spirits and tasting-sized bottles. With a uniform internal layout, this format is well suited to brands planning daily tasting experiences or product sampling campaigns.

The structure measures 43cm in length, 13cm in width and 31cm in height and was designed to deliver a premium appearance in a smaller footprint. Festive wreath-inspired artwork creates a traditional Christmas feel, while the layout demonstrates how branding and decorative design can sit alongside each other without appearing crowded. The format shows how a simple internal structure can still deliver a luxurious unboxing experience through careful attention to surface design and print quality.

Design Flexibility and Brand Application

Rather than acting as final products, both calendars were created to show how custom packaging can be adapted to support different brand identities. From artwork styles and colour palettes to layout and print finishes, each concept illustrates how the same structural format can be transformed to reflect very different brand personalities.

The designs intentionally include visual space within the layout to demonstrate how logos, messaging or campaign information could be applied without the need for structural redesign, offering clients both creative freedom and practical efficiency.

Commercial Design Approach

Using E-fluted board instead of rigid packaging demonstrates how brands can achieve a luxury look while remaining commercially efficient. These concepts are suitable not only for exclusive gifting but also for higher-volume activity such as sampling campaigns, promotional distribution and influencer gifting.

This approach gives brands the opportunity to explore advent-style packaging without the investment typically associated with fully rigid construction.

Project Summary

This project demonstrates how festive packaging can go beyond novelty and become a genuine brand experience. Through intelligent structure, considered material choice and flexible design, Magellan’s calendar concepts reflect how luxury packaging can be both creative and commercially viable. The result is a pair of formats that offer drinks brands a distinctive and adaptable solution for seasonal campaigns.
